Work for Mike on Election Day! Here's How!

Why work the polls? Does it really do any good? YES! Volunteer experiences at the early voting polls show that while most folks have their minds made up for president when they get to the polls, many are still thinking about the Governor's race. Our volunteers report that folks are eager to hear about the Libertarian alternative and have heard good things about Mike Munger. One volunteer reports that early voting pollwork was a great experience - very attentive and positive reaction from all I spoke with.

So: Are you ready to spend the day at the polls? Here's help on getting started!

CALL ANYTIME ON ELECTION DAY FOR HELP: SUSAN HOGARTH AT 919-906-2106.

You may already have a stock of Munger campaign cards - but if you didn't previously get materials to hand out at the polls, you can still help! Below we have a link to materials you can print yourself in inexpensive black and white at a local copy shop. There are 4 of these to each page, so you can get quite a few for a small investment.

Choose your own hours - 6:30a-7:30p is long day, so if you're not up for 12 straight hours, consider working the morning, lunch, and evening hours, with breaks in between for rest and more photocopying :)

Things you might want to take to the polling place:

  • your Munger08 yard sign, if you have one
  • Munger08 campaign cards, if you have them
  • Munger08 printouts, which you can find here, along with printing suggestions: http://www.munger08.com/?q=node/22
  • a notepad and pen, to take names/numbers of folks who want more information or have questions about Mike or the Libertarian Party
  • layered, comfortable clothing and an umbrella - Tuesday will be cool (60s) with showers possible
  • drinks/snacks
  • folding chair

What to do at the polls: You will want to set up to speak to folks as they are entering the polling place. You need to stay outside of the 'no electioneering beyond this point' signs that are posted. Just offer folks information about Mike; you can use a line like "Would you like some information about a real choice for change in the governor's race?" or "Are you interested in getting some information on the governor's race?" If folks would like more information about other LP candidates or the Libertarian Party, tell them what you know and/or offer to call someone or take their name and number and someone will get back to them.

Where to go: You can simply visit your own precinct - and if you haven't voted yet, that is definitely the place to start! You can find your own polling place by visiting this SBOE website: http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/PrecinctFinder.aspx

But, if you'd like to pick out a strategic polling place, we've sorted the precincts by size. There are some very small and some very large precincts - if you want a busy few hours or a busy day talking to potential Munger voters, you can find the largest precincts in either your NC Senate District or County.

This list: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pYQ3qoagoxGPxm_H2qfpNEQ

has the precincts sorted by NC Senate districts and then size - simply find your Senate District, then note that the precincts in that district are listed in order of descending size.

This list: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pYQ3qoagoxGMk1Ta8T_2lFw

has the precincts sorted by county and then size - simply find your county, then note that the precincts in that county are listed in order of descending size. (note: the figures and lists are from 2006; some of the precincts listed may have been split or consolidated, so you may want to choose 2 or 3 so you have a backup in case your first choice is sub-optimal)

To find the addresses and other info of the polling place(s) you identified, use this page at the NC SBOE: http://www.app.sboe.state.nc.us/pollingplace/default.asp

Simply select the county, and then the polling place(s) you've identified as being of interest.

If you'd like help with this process or have ANY QUESTIONS on or about Election Day volunteering, please call Susan Hogarth at 919-906-2106.

And, finally, don't forget the election night party in Raleigh! Join Mike on Election Night to watch the returns. The party will be in the University Room at the University Club at 4200 Hillsborough St. in Raleigh. Food and drink will be available. An RSVP is not required, but is preferred (RSVP to Susan at 919-906-2106). Thanks for being part of this historic race!
